The placing of larger aircraft on existing routes has already created hundreds of extra seats per day on flights to Edinburgh and Glasgow, with other routes likely to follow.

bmi, Heathrow’s second biggest airline, is accelerating contingency plans to enable the airline carry any passengers that are caught up in the threatened industrial action and disruption to BA services on the 30th and 31st January.

bmi is also planning to increase the frequency of flights as and when take-off and landing slots are released following the announcement by BA of the cancellation of all its flights next Tuesday and Wednesday.

bmi serves the following key destinations which are also served by BA from Heathrow:
Manchester; Aberdeen; Glasgow; Edinburgh; Brussels; Paris; Amsterdam; Moscow; Lyon. (bmi also operates to Durham Tees Valley while BA operates to Newcastle).
